Did you ever want to go outdoors for bouldering? Our course Bouldering in Fontainebleau takes you on a weekend trip to the magical area of Fontainebleau.

The goal of the course is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to enjoy outdoor bouldering independently and safely, with the primary emphasis being safety, and showing you some of the best areas that this world-renowned bouldering spot has to offer.

Fontainebleau is ideal for a weekend trip. Not only the proximity to Luxembourg, just under 4 hours drive, makes the area attractive, but also the unmistakable landscape and the seemingly endless number of boulder problems make Fontainebleau a popular destination for climbers worldwide.

We leave together from Luxembourg on the morning of the first day. Upon arrival we go directly to the crag, and start with an introduction of the safety aspects of outdoor bouldering. We then give the most beautiful boulders a try, while accompanying you step by step, paying attention to safety and giving you tips and tricks. In the evenings we will have dinner together, relax and we give you an overview of the best bouldering areas, what to expect and what to look out for, how to get there and answer all your further questions. We use the second day until late afternoon to climb in other areas and show you more advanced bouldering techniques.

While we do not require any minimum requirements, arguably some climbing experience is an advantage.

Course contents

  • Introduction to outdoor bouldering in Fontainebleau’s unique sandstone environment
  • Safety and spotting: Learn essential bouldering safety, including how to fall safely, proper spotting techniques, and the use of crash pads
  • Risk assessment of boulders, which ones to climb or not to climb, potential dangers
  • Exploration of the best bouldering circuits in the forest, tailored to your experience level
  • A supportive and friendly atmosphere, encouraging progress and community

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have gained not only new skills and techniques but also unforgettable memories of climbing in one of the most famous bouldering areas in the world.

Offer: included in our offer is guiding, crash pads, food, transport and accommodation.

Organization and Communication

We will send you a confirmation email after you registered (please check your spam folder). After the booking deadline, we will reach out to you and all other participants to coordinate travel plans and, if necessary, discuss options if the minimum number of participants has not been met. We will finalize details such as the meeting point, equipment, travel, and other organizational information.

Independent vs guided participants

We offer two different prices depending on whether you are independent participant or one that needs guiding. An independent participant will benefit from the accomodation and food but will receive only minor guiding instructions. This means that we will suggest climbing areas, help with the local travel, but we will not supervise your climbing.

In contrast, the guided participants receive our full attention. We will supervise your climbing, give tips and tricks and provide in-field teaching in order to help you progress towards becoming an independent climber.

Requirements for being an independent participant:

  • you are able to climb independently
  • you are able to evaluate the safety aspects of a climb
  • you have your own crashpads

An independent climber is responsible for his or her own safety and HiFive insurance will not be responsible if an independent climber has an accident during an unsupervised climb.

Travel and accommodation

Travel and accommodation will be organized shortly before the trip when we know the final number of participants.

We offer a shared accommodation in either an apartment or a house. This will imply shared bedrooms for participants. If you want a single room then this may be possible with a surcharge. Let us know during your booking if you want this option.

Bad weather policy

As stated in our General Terms of Conditions, the organizer reserves the right to terminate the contract if, before the start of the course/excursion, the weather conditions cannot guarantee that the course/excursion can be carried out safely. The customer will then be refunded the price for services not received.

Material needed

You should bring your climbing shoes, chalk, a small backpack with something to eat for the first day (breakfast and lunch), water, a bouldering mat if you have (otherwise HiFive has for guided participants), and clothing etc for two days.

Conducting the course with fewer than the minimum number of participants

If you want, then the course can still take place, even if there are fewer than the minimum number of participants. In this case a surcharge will apply.
