El Chorro is a world-famous climbing area in southern Spain, one hour from Málaga. Fantastic limestone walls rise high above lakes and gorges. The weather is made for climbing: sun and dry air dominate most of the year.

Climbing is the one major activity that defines the area. The routes are generally well bolted and well maintained, with over 2000 sport routes covering all levels. You find anything from slabs for technique and precision climbing to  steep sectors for power and endurance. Many sectors face different directions, so shade or sun stays easy to manage.

Access to the climbing areas ranges from short approaches up to longer walks through the wonderful gorge. We will make sure that you spend more time climbing and less time walking.

During rest days you are free to choose what you would like to do: anything from lingering in the shade, sightseeing nearby places or staying active, such as hiking through El Caminito del Rey, swimming in the reservoirs or driving to the sea for a beach day.

Our job is to provide you with a wonderful experience. You are there to enjoy.

Trip contents:

Day 1 – Arrival & Briefing
Flight from Luxembourg or Charleroi to Malaga (ca. 14:00 arrival). Drive together to El Chorro (1h).
Easy arrival, maybe a short hike, with a welcome briefing and planning for the next day.

Day 2 – Climbing
Explore some of the iconic single-pitch crags of El Chorro.

Day 3 – Climbing
Limestone sport climbing – routes adapted to group level. Single pitch or multi-pitch depending on group and interest.

Day 4 – Rest Day
Optional hike or beach time around Malaga.
⚠ Note: If any rest-day activity (e.g. boat trip) has additional costs, these are not included in the trip price.

Day 5 – Climbing
More climbing, possibly multi-pitch depending on the group.

Day 6 – Climbing
Another full day on the rock – we’ll make the most of it.

Day 7 – Climbing
Yet again another full day on the rock – we’ll make the most of it.

Day 8 – Departure
Depending on flight time: short activities possible (beach, walk, coffee with a view), then flight home.

Each day includes practical, in-the-field learning, allowing you to apply new skills on actual lead routes under the guidance of experienced instructors. We are there to supervisor, to teach you, and to show you the nicest routes. Planning is subject to weather and the group. We are generally available to guide eight hours a day. On rest days we provide transport to reasonably-located areas.

Accommodation:

in or very close to El Chorro

Villa with single/double beds shared between 2 participants.

State your preferences for roommate and bed constellation during booking, we try our best to organise the accommodation according to your wishes.

Independent vs guided participants

We offer two different prices depending on whether you are independent participant or one that needs guiding. An independent participant will benefit from the accomodation, food, local travel, but will receive only minor guiding instructions. This means that we will suggest climbing areas or routes, help with the local travel, but we will not supervise your climbing.

In contrast, the guided participants receive our full attention. We will supervise your climbing, give tips and tricks, provide in-field teaching in order to help you progress towards becoming an independent climber, put up the topropes for you, and if possible, take you on multi-pitch adventures.

Requirements for being an independent climber:

  • you can safely lead and belay outdoors yourself
  • you are able to climb independently
  • you are able to evaluate the safety aspects of a climb

An independent climber is responsible for his or her own safety and HiFive insurance will not be responsible if an independent climber has an accident during an unsupervised climb.

Organization and Communication

We will send you a confirmation email after you registered (please check your spam folder). After the booking deadline, we will reach out to you and all other participants to coordinate travel plans and, if necessary, discuss options if the minimum number of participants has not been met. We will finalize details such as the meeting point, equipment, travel, and other organizational information.
