How to project climb

Want to push your climbing grade? This course is designed for climbers looking to tackle more challenging routes by developing a strategic approach to projecting. Through a combination of technique refinement, mental preparation, and detailed route analysis, you’ll learn how to break down complex climbs, manage fatigue, and stay focused during attempts. Topics include route reading, developing beta, managing falls, and pacing yourself through multiple tries. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and mindset to confidently tackle your hardest projects and progress in your climbing ability.

Our internationally-certified and experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamental techniques in a fun and supportive environment. You should have expierence with lead climbing at around 6a or above, and would like to learn how to push your grades further.

Course contents

  • Strategies to Approach a Project: Approaching a climbing project involves setting clear goals, choosing the right project, breaking down the route into manageable sections, and mentally preparing for the challenges ahead.
  • Route Reading: Route reading is the skill of analyzing a route before starting, identifying key holds, movement patterns, and possible rest points to devise the most efficient climbing strategy.
  • Visualization Techniques: Visualization techniques involve mentally rehearsing each movement and sequence of a climb to enhance focus, confidence, and muscle memory before executing on the wall.
  • Memorization Exercises: Memorization exercises help climbers retain specific sequences, holds, and beta, improving their ability to recall important details during a climb and increasing overall efficiency.

Each session includes practical, in-the-field learning, allowing you to apply new skills on actual lead routes under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Organization and Communication

We will send you a confirmation email after you registered (please check your spam folder). Several days before the offer begins, we will reach out to you and all other participants to coordinate travel plans and, if necessary, discuss options if the minimum number of participants has not been met. We will finalize details such as the meeting point, equipment, travel, and other organizational information.

Material needed

For this course you should wear normal sports clothing. Bring your usual indoor sport climbing equipment, a rope of around 50m length or more, and the belay device that you are most comfortable at.

Conducting the course with fewer than the minimum number of participants

For an additional fee (see “Offer costs”), the course will still take place even if there are fewer than the minimum number of participants. You can choose this option when registering if desired.
